History

The beginnings of the Green County Family YMCA, located in Monroe, WI started in 1982 when local volunteers and donors collaborated to raise nearly a million dollars to build a YMCA with the key component being an indoor swimming pool. The Green County Family YMCA was chartered in 1983, the building finished in 1985. Since then, the YMCA has grown from a $187,000 budget to a million dollar operation serving almost 4000 members and twice that many in programs built on Christian principles that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.

Due to the generosity of the people and businesses in Green County, the YMCA grew an additional 5,300 sq. ft. in the spring of 2003. This addition was made after several years of planning resulting in a facility that better serves the fitness needs of our community. This 5,300 sq. ft. addition increased your YMCA’s total sq. ft. to 40,300.

Included in the 40,300 sq. ft., is a 25 meter heated indoor swimming pool surrounded by a beautiful sea mural, fitness center, full size gym, gymnastics center/multipurpose room, locker rooms, family locker area, running track, babysitting room, preschool, lounge, lobby and offices.

In fall 2008, the YMCA completed an upgrade, did some renovation and preservation of the existing facility. The near $300,000 project included painting the pool ceiling, regrouting and redesigning the pool deck space, new aquatic office and guard room, a new larger preschool room was carved out of the “old” lobby as was a new youth lounge. The biggest change was building a bright, spacious, more welcoming entry just off the parking lot. Thus front went to back. In addition, a new control spot was created which in turn created our membership card system. The final touch to the project was the new safer spring floor added to our gymnastics room.

The YMCA facility is on about 10 acres of land. The athletic field was expanded in the end of 2000 adding 720 square feet which includes playing fields for soccer, football and T-ball. The YMCA also has a preschool gym/playground area. In 1999, the YMCA constructed a 28×30 two bay garage. 2005 also saw the addition of a beautiful pavilion. The pavilion includes a concession stand, picnic area, handicap access to the athletic fields, and shade and shelter for fans.

• Freemotion selectorized strength equipment
• Magnum selectorized strength equipment
• Star Trac plate loaded strength equipment
• Variety of free weights and benches
