2020 President’s Report

2020 was a challenging year to say the least.  The Monticello Chamber continued our mission to promote and support Monticello and its business community to the best of our ability during this trying year.

In February 2020, we held our annual meeting.  Our annual meeting has proven to be a time for members and community leaders to come together and share in accomplishments, as well as share new ideas to promote Monticello and all that we have to offer.  It truly is a fun evening to socialize, relax, learn, and build our support for one another.  In 2021, our annual meeting will be postponed until the weather is a bit nicer as we are hoping to meet outside.  We will be sure to keep everyone posted, and plan to send invites as we normally do for this event.  So stay tuned!

With the challenges of 2020, the Chamber tried something new this year!  During the spring and early summer, we sponsored a month-long promotion encouraging support of our local businesses.  It was great to see the community come together and support our local businesses.  We gave weekly prizes of Monticello Money for 4 weeks, with a final grand prize winner at the end of the month.   We ran this promotion again during fall and added a pumpkin decorating contest in October for Halloween as well.

For the current holiday season, we are again having our Holiday Decorating Contest for businesses.  So, what better time to decorate your business, show the holiday spirit and promote Monticello business! Share your pictures on Facebook and let us know so we can help spread the word for online voting.  The public votes will determine our business winner.  New for 2020, we are including a residential decorating contest to bring more attention to Monticello!  The Chamber is trying to highlight the very best of Monticello.  We want our local residents to shop local and we want our businesses to thrive.

The Monticello Money program continues to be a valuable asset.  Every purchase made with Monticello Money keeps those dollars working in our community.  It can be used just like cash at any Chamber member business.  Monticello Money makes a great gift and helps the community at the same time!

Our hope is that 2021 is a better, more positive year for everyone in Monticello.  With all of your help, we’ll make 2021 a great year for Monticello Chamber of Commerce and Monticello.

We will continue to work on ideas to incorporate participation among businesses, and hope to drive more people into your business and our community!  As always, please feel free to share your ideas with us, and let us know how we can help you grow your business!  We wish you a very Happy Holiday season and a peaceful, prosperous New Year!

Thank you,

Sally Roe, Monticello Chamber of Commerce President
